Don't be embarassed! I think that the weather has changed a lot since I've been in Colorado (1999). Don't have real falls or springs anymore. It can snow in June or be totally warm in December. I don't like snow myself. It's exciting to see that you want to visit France and other countries. Good luck with that! Do you know what books you will be using in French IV? To the French speaking WIFKs: do you remember which books you used in English? I used Speak English (the Gray and Miller families), Imagine You're English, Ways and Means (or something like that). It was fun.

I don't However I remember that we almost didn't use any book during 3 years out of 4... And that we spent a whole year just learning by heart the list "to be, was , been, etre ..."

| And the list went on and on. Didn't we have fun memorizing all the verbs? I found a picture of my first English book (with David Gray and Jenny Miller on the cover). http://www.priceminister.com/image?action=slideshow&prdfamilycode=100&prdimageid=504000458&productid=17807527 | |

| If I'm going to France within the next year, I will start planning that in December or January. I will most likely travel with my friend Brittany because she is also taking french and we would like to do a trip at the end of our senior year. She is the only friend I have that is also taking french, the rest are either taking spanish or they aren't taking a language.
I think the books we use are called "Discovering French." The have the bleu, blanc, et rouge editions and for French IV we use rouge.

| foreverhis053007, I'm sure you'll have a great time in France. I found a picture of the cover of your French book, Jean-Paul Valette wrote so many French (and Spanish) books.
Hellosmile, yes, this was my first book. That was so long ago and my mother gave all the recordings to my cousins but I think the dialog went something like this: David: What is it Jenny? A bag? Jenny: No, it isn't a bag. David: What is it then? Jenny: It's a transistor.
That's all we learned during the first lessons. What is it? It's a ...

| hellosmile, did you start with German?
I did in 6ème (6th grade), and took English in 4ème (8th grade). German was a mistake, I think.

| I started English in 6th grade (6ème) in junior high (called collège in France). It quickly became my favorite subject. I remember being so excited that I read the whole book even though I could not understand a word (+there was no glossary at the end and we were forbidden to buy or use a dictionary). That was a very long time ago, at the end of the 70s. Most of you were not even born yet. The cover that I saw was different hellosmile. http://www.target.com/gp/detail-tab-popup.html/ref=in_de_detail-item-display/602-9233385-4598206?ie=UTF8&parentStoreItem=0&asin=0395874866&tabToSelect=additionalImages I suppose one is less "nouveau" than the other. | |

Oh Hellosmile, where did you live before? Fabnice, Jenny Miller had RED hair like her brother Brian (and their parents Susan and Graham). Most of the other family (the Grays) had black hair. I can only remember the children's names: David, Helen, and Bob (who had blond hair). (Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture of the blue thing (le fameux cache)).

| hellosmile, I loved English from the start. I actually liked German, and all the other languages I started to study: Italian, Serbo-Croatian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. I said German was a mistake because Spanish would have been more interesting to me. I love salsa and merengue. | |

| I'll answer for Hellosmile. 3ème is literally 3rd grade but in France we count grades backwards, the last grade (senior year) being Terminale. We go like this: 1. École maternelle (3 years of nursery school)
2. École primaire (grade school): CP (Cours préparatoire) = 1st grade CE1 (Cours élementaire 1) = 2nd grade CE2 (Cours élémentaire 2) = 3rd grade (sometimes called 9ème) CM1 (cours moyen 1) = 4th grade (sometimes called 8ème) CM2 (cours moyen 2) = 5th grade (sometimes called 7ème)
2. Collège (junior high school or middle school) 6ème or Sixième (6th grade): usually that's when we begin studying the first foreign language 5ème or Cinquième (7th grade): usually we have Latin initiation 4ème or Quatrième (8th grade): usually we start a second foreign language 3ème or Troisième (9th grade)
3. Lycée (high school) 2nde (Seconde) 1ère (Première) Terminale (12th grade)
